HANABANK DAEJEON CITY HALL
DESIGN SPECIFIC PROJECT
The Daejeon City Hall branch of Hana Bank, which I visited for the first time on a rainy day, resembled the city hall building it shared, complete with the stiff atmosphere. The overall finishing material of the space was made of granite, making it look colder, the walls with traces of time and the low lit interior made the space even more dark and gloomy.
The main customers of Hana Bank's Daejeon City Hall branch were people employed by city hall. It was a space in the flow of daily life where people stopped by for transactions while working. oddball thought that it would be good if the cold and hard atmosphere became a special space in daily life, presenting warmth and light to customers who stayed for a while.
The ‘Greenhouse’ was chosen as the space concept of Hana Bank’s Daejeon City Hall branch. It would welcome customers with sunlight poured through the window, creating a space that presented customers with the warmth and freshness of green leaves. As customers flowed through the bank, a gable structure consisting of a greenhouse's grating frame on the window allowed sunlight to greet them.
Customers could sit comfortably on sofas in the waiting space, and objects, furniture, and plants combined with flowerpots were placed around the furniture so that they could feel the freshness and warmth of the greenery. In addition, the light illuminating the trees created a shadow, creating the impression that the shadows glimmering on the plants surround people.
Like a greenhouse that provides an environment of variety of plants to live in by providing warmth from outside light, Oude Ball hopes that Hana Bank Daejeon City Hall Branch will become a comfortable space where customers can feel the warmth in their daily lives.
